Hello, My name is Emma Oppewall and I am in my junior year at the University of Maine Orono. I am a member of the Honors College with a major in Anthropology and minors in International Affairs and Spanish. My individual academic interests include global cultural relations with a focus on Latin America and gender equality. I enjoy spending my free time with my horse Donny as well as traveling to new locations when ever possible.
This blog will focus on recent developments to U.S. Cuban relations and why these developments are occurring now. This topic is of interest to me because it is an area that I don’t feel I know enough about. Recent news of attempts to improve the relationship between our nations prompted my interest, but left me with a question. Why are these changes starting now? This blog will seek to hypothesize some potential answers to this central question.
